JOsef Mengele
In May 1943 he was promoted to Hauptsturmführer
(captain) and was posted to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where he
remained until January 18, 1945 when it was evacuated. While at Auschwitz
Mengele spent most of his time on pseudoscientific experiments. In these
experiments he would use incoming Jews as genie pigs.

Experiments
In his experiments dr. Mengele was fascinated most by twins,
infants and dwarfs. He would even save twins and dwarfs from being sent to the
gas chambers. Mengele viewed twins as "priceless things" worthy of
being rescued from death for his medical experiments. He would provide these
people with comfortable living conditions to improve their health and strength.
Then he would measure all of the parts of their body and perform crude
surgeries on them ("Josef Megele" 311). A woman known as Eva
Mozes Kor was a twin who was sent to Auschwitz. Upon arrival she was taken with
her sister to Mengele. Three times a week Mengele would inject her with various
drugs and chemicals ("Holocaust Twins' Survival Story"). Also besides
experiments with twins and dwarfs Mengele also sometimes preformed unnecessary
surgeries on other Jews in Auschwitz. For example Yitzhak Ganon was taken
to hospital in Auschwitz where he was tied down and Dr. Mengele
removed his kidney with no anesthetics.
